Presentación
  • I received a M.Eng. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), a M.Sc. in Medical Technology and Instrumentation from UNED and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, also from the UPM. I started my career working in the design of multimedia systems for teleradiology within the framework of two European projects, and then I specialized in artificial vision applied to medical imaging. I have worked in microscopy image analysis in genetics and oncology, echocardiography image analysis and neuroimaging analysis. I have also worked in the design of digital systems in the energy sector and in healthcare.
I am currently a University Professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos University, where I lead the Research Group on Medical Imaging Technologies (PROMISE) and the Medical Image Analysis and Biometrics Laboratory (LAIMBIO) of the Madri+d laboratory network. The group specializes in multimodal image analysis (Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography, hybrid PET/MR systems and microscopy) and machine learning with applications in neurology, psychiatry and oncology.
Between 2011 and 2016 I was the deputy director in Madrid of the Madrid-MIT M+Vision Consortium between the Community of Madrid and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and now I am a member of the faculty of the MIT linQ program. I am a Business Mentor certified by the Community of Madrid.
I am especially interested in translational research and innovation methodologies that allow creating projects with real impact in the clinic and industry. I have been the PI of 7 research grants with public funding and 12 research contracts with private entities (clinical centers, research centers and companies).
I am the co-founder of Medimsight, a cloud platform that allows multimodal image quantification from different developers.
