Antonio José del-Ama started joined in 2006 the Biomechanics and Assistive Technology Unit of the National Hospital for Paraplegics, becoming Group Leader (PI) from 2017 to 2019. Between 2008 and 2012 he was internship researcher at the Neural Engineering Group at CSIC (formerly the BioEngineering Group), getting his Ph.D. in the area of hybrid lower limb exoskeletons for walking assistance. From 2015 to 2019 hold a part-time lecturer position at Castilla-La Mancha and Rey Juan Carlos Universities. From September 2019 he is full-time Associate Professor at Rey Juan Carlos University in the Electronic Technology department. From 2012 he is also a member of the Commission of Medical and Health Engineering of the Association of Industrial Engineers of Madrid.
His research interests are related to robotic and Neuroprosthetic technologies for movement assistance, biomechanics of motor function and evaluation of assistive technologies. He has been involved in several competitive regional (1), national (6) and European (2) projects related to lower limb wearable robots for walking assistance as a researcher as well as PI in European (BioMot) and National (TAILOR) competitive projects related to rehabilitation robotics. He is author of 54 publications indexed in WOS: 35 JCR papers (10 Q1 and 19 Q2), more than 70 communications to national and international congress, and co-author of 10 book chapters. In 2011 he was awarded the Technological Innovation Award from the Rodolfo Benito Samaniego Foundation for its work on the biomechanical assessment of manual wheelchair propulsion.
