  • Paloma Bernal Turnes received an European PhD in Business Management from Rey Juan Carlos University (Spain), University of Rome (Italy) and Reims Management School (France). She received a MA degree in Marketing (Complutense University, Madrid), and the Post-graduate courses in New Information Technologies (Autonoma University, Madrid), Multivariate Statistical Analysis (UNED University, Spain), and Quantitative Research Methodology (Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain). Nowadays, she is working as an Associate Tenure Professor at Rey Juan Carlos University. 

    Paloma Bernal Turnes is an Economist specialized in International Trade, Investments and Competitiveness within the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation (FCI) and MacroEconomics, Trade and Investments (MTI) Global Practice at The World Bank where Paloma is undertaking the impact evaluation project of key factors affecting firms performance and workforce changes in Pakistan, including strategic planning, and quasi-experimental and experimental designs and developing econometrics and other quantitative methods for formal analysis, hypothesis testing, and reporting. She also is researching about business survival during the COVID in Algeria, and Global Value Chains in Costa Rica.

    Paloma is a Visiting Researcher at Georgetown University and at George Washington University (2016-2018). Paloma focused on teaching, and researching on international trade and trade facilitation, customs operational environment and cross-border management, competitiveness, innovation and foreign investment, global logistics, value contribution to the global supply chain systems, novel research methodologies and teaching techniques.

    She has published 12 publications in well recognized academic journals, 10 books, and 40 book chapters. Prior to joining the Word Bank, she was the chief of the Unit of international trade and e-business in United Nations. Previously, she served as an international trade advisor at the Spanish Embassy in Hungary, project manager of PPPs in Inypsa (Spain) and worked as an international affairs and marketing expert for IBM (Spain), Dell (Ireland), ESB (Ireland), Caja Madrid (Spain), Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and Molino (Argentina).
