Investigador/Técnico
Presentación
  • Vanesa Gómez-Martínez received the B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering and the M.Sc. degree in Computer Vision from Rey Juan Carlos University in 2022 and 2023, respectively. She is currently a PhD candidate specializing in Explainable and Multimodal Artificial Intelligence for health applications, with a focus on skin lesions. Her doctoral research is being conducted within the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, Telematics and Computing Systems at Rey Juan Carlos University.

Since October 2023, she has been a researcher in the European Union's Horizon project WARIFA, building data-driven and interpretable predictive models for skin lesion analysis. Vanesa has participated in national and international projects, developing artificial intelligence methods for clinical data, including text mining, natural language processing, and structured data analysis.

During her PhD, she has been awarded the José María Ferrero Corral Prize by the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering, in recognition of her contributions to biomedical research. Additionally, her Final Degree's Project, based on machine learning techniques to predict severe hypoglycemic events in diabetic patients, received an honorable mention and the Sendo Accésit Award for the best Final Degree Project related to the Sustainable Development Goals. Her Final Master's Project on melanoma identification in dermatoscopic images and electronic health records also earned an honorable mention.

Vanesa also has experience in the academic field, having supervised two Final Degree's Projects, both receiving excellent grades, and is currently mentoring two more projects this year.

Her main research interests include machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, particularly in healthcare contexts.
