  • Robinson Guzmán is Assistant Teaching and Senior Researcher in the Department of Communications and Signal Theory and Computer and Telematic Systems in the Electronic Field. He joined to the University Rey Juan Carlos I in February 2023. He worked at the Electronics Technology Department of Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), belonging to the Optoelectronics and Laser Technology Group (GOTL) from 2009 to 2023. Currently, He continues collaborating with GOTL in some National and Europeans Projects.

He received his Electronics Engineering degree and the Industrial Electronic specialist degree from the Universidad del Norte of Barranquilla, Colombia in 2003 and 2005, respectively. He also holds an Informatics and Telematics specialist degree from the Universidad del Area Andina in 2006. He holds a master¿s degree in Advanced Electronics Systems and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation from Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) in 2011 and 2016, respectively. Since 2009 he has been working on the study, assessment, design, simulation, test and characterization of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), exploring the development of new photonic integrated light engines (integrated optical systems on a chip) for various fields of applications. In addition, the design of digital systems based on microcontrollers, microprocessors and FPGAs for the biasing and control of
photonic integrated circuits (PICs). As well as the PCB design for the characterization and assembly of PICs.

He is working as well as researcher in the field of Microwave Photonic Integrated Circuits, developing photonic-based sources for the generation of microwave, millimetre, and Terahertz wave frequencies. He has collaborated in different European projects as Project Researcher helping to make key contributions to the field, aiming at communication applications to ultra-broadband (>10 Gb/s) wireless communication systems in future 5G mobile communications. Since 2009, his research activities and interest has been focused on the development of an integration platform for photonics and RF electronics, through hybrid integration of InP-based Photonic Integrated Circuits, together with microwave circuits for the high-data rate wireless communication system design. Another research topic is in spectroscopy, developing photonic-based low-frequency microwave signal generation compact sources.

Currently, he is working on development of photonic-based wireless link communication system and photonic-based the Terahertz wave frequency carrier generation for aerospace field, collaborating in the study, design, test and characterization of the PICs and optoelectronics components involved in both systems.

He has participated in different European and National I+D Projects publishing numerous papers in high impact refereed journals and as well as participating in different international and national conferences.

Since 1997, he has been working on a wide range of application fields related to Analog and Digital Control System design, Electronic Systems Design based on Microcontrollers, Microprocessors and FPGA, Robotics, Industrial Automation and Control Systems based on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Software Tool Development, Analog and Digital System Design, Custom Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design.

He has supervised 4 Bachelor thesis, 3 Master thesis and 1 Doctoral thesis (International Mention).
