Presentación
  • In 1985, I obtained a degree in Geological Sciences at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. During 1988-1991, I was awarded a scholarship by the Spanish Ministry of Education to carry out doctorate studies at the Earth Sciences Department of the University of Leeds (G.B.), obtaining there the Ph.D. in 1993.

Later, I worked as senior geologist at Compañía General de Sondeos, S.A. for 10 years (1991-1999), involved in geological mapping (National Geological Map, MAGNA) and mineral exploration projects.

In 1999, I joined Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) as associate lecturer of Geology. I obtained the tenure position at the university in 2003.

During the period 1999 to the present, I have taught in different degrees at the URJC and in the master studies of Environmental Science and Technology (2005-2009, URJC), Teacher Training Secondary Education (2014, URJC), and Hydrology and Management of Water Resources (2006-present, UAH-URJC), being co-director of the later until 2021. I have been the coordinator in the URJC of the Doctorate Programme in Hydrology and Management of Water Resources (UAH-URJC) (2014-2024) and the coordinator of the Doctorate Programme in Sciences (2016-2021,URJC) and of the Science Section of the URJC School of Masters in the period from 2015 to 2020.

I have supervised four doctoral theses (URJC, UAH) in Hydrology and Water Resources Management (UAH-URJC). I have also supervised more than 65 bachelor's and master's theses. I have participated as lecturer in specialization courses in Spain (Universidad de Jaén, Universidad de Burgos, Canal de Isabel II), in Chile (Universidad de la Serena), Argentina (Servicio Geológico y Minero Argentino), and Perú (CECAMIN, Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina).

Most of my research has been published  in 75 scientific and technical papers in peer-review journals (Scopus H index: 23), and book chapters. Also, I co-authored six technical books and methodological guides. I collaborate with GEMM (Group for Mining and Environmental Studies, UCM-UCLM-ULS-URJC). I am a team member of the Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Planetary Exploration (LabTEP).

I have participated in 22 competitive projects (Spain, Chile, European Union), in eight of which as IP or research group leader (CONSOLIDER Tragua). Additionally, I have participated in several contracts with companies, in several of them as research group leader. I am associate researcher at the IMDEA Agua Institute (Madrid) and collaborating researcher at the IGEA Applied Geology Institute (UCLM).

    My research working lines are:
    • Environmental geochemistry
    • Hydrogeochemistry and Water Quality
    • Quality and regeneration of water in natural systems
    • Relationships between tectonics, plutonism / volcanism and metallogenesis
    • Effects of global change on soil and water resources
