  • Abraham Duarte was born in Hervás (Cáceres, Spain) on October 24, 1975. He received his M.S. degree in Physics Sciences (Electronic Speciality) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2004 from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC). He was Previously working at the Electronic Instrumentation and Sensors Group in the Faculty of Physics Sciences at UCM and at the Actuators and Microsistems Group in the IAI-CSIC, in both as research grant holder.

    He is Full Professor (Catedrático de Universidad) at the Computer Science Department (Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación) where is the leader of the Group for Research on Algorithms For Optimization GRAFO.He is reviewer of several journals and belongs to the program committee of several conferences. He is member of HEUR and EU/ME metaheuristic networks. He has published 55 papers in prestigious scientific journals such us European Journal of Operational Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Computational Optimization and Applications or Computers & Operations Research. Dr. Duarte has also published 12 papers in non- indexed journals, 9 book chapters and more than 60 papers in conference proceedings. Dr Duarte is reviewer of the Journal of Heuristic, Journal of Mathematical Modeling and Algorithms, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Applied Soft Computing, European Journal of Operational Research and Soft Computing. He is also member of the program committee of the conferences MAEB, HIS, ISDA, SOCO or MHIPL.

    His main research interests focus on the interface among Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research. Most of his publications deal with the development of metaheuristics procedures for optimization problems.
